It was an
ominous opening week for the West Central Conference on the hardwood. The
league failed to post a single victory in nine non-conference tilts. Five of
the seven conference schools opened action and four of them lost a pair of
contests.
Cascade fell
55-36 to Beech Grove on Tuesday evening and then dropped a heartbreaking 63-61
tilt to Covenant Christian in overtime Friday night. North Putnam opened versus
two tough Sagamore Conference foes. The Cougars fell to state ranked
Crawfordsville 55-33 on Tuesday and then to Danville 56-40 on Thursday. South
Putnam also suffered two setbacks, 60-44 to Rockville on Tuesday and 67-38 to
Edgewood on Friday evening. Cloverdale, suffering from heavy graduation losses
was drilled by Tri-West on Wednesday 79-12 and fell to Union-Dugger 41-31 the
following night.
Monrovia opened the season in Indiana Monday
